Markets Rebound Strongly
The U.S. economy added 177,000 jobs in April, beating expectations, while the unemployment rate remained at 4.2% amid uncertainty over Trump administration trade policies.
The stock market rose on the upbeat jobs report, with the S&P 500 jumping 1.47% and recovering all losses since April 2. The Dow also rose 564.47 points, and the Nasdaq gained 1.51%.
President Trump praised the strong economic news on social media, calling it part of his economic plan’s transition stage and urging the Federal Reserve to lower interest rates.
Another piece of positive economic news arrived Friday as China’s Commerce Ministry said officials were reviewing a U.S. offer to hold tariff talks.
Crash Near Yellowstone Kills Seven
Authorities confirmed seven people were killed in a fiery crash between a tour van and a pickup truck Thursday night on an eastern Idaho highway near Yellowstone National Park.
It remains unclear how a Mercedes van carrying 14 tour group members collided with a Dodge Ram pickup, killing six van passengers and the truck driver. The eight surviving passengers were transported to nearby hospitals.
The crash is under investigation and officials are withholding further details until families are notified.
List: Safest Cars for Teens
A new list of the safest cars for teen drivers names over 140 recommended models across three price points: under $10,000, under $20,000, and new vehicles.
Researchers analyzed crash, braking, handling, and reliability data to rank the best small cars, midsize cars, large cars, small and midsize SUVs, and minivans. Minicars, sports cars, large SUVs, pickups and EVs were not considered.
Volvo, Mazda, and Subaru models appear frequently in the under $10,000 category, while cars by Honda, Toyota, and Ford can be found on the under $20,000 list.
