Comey Sparks Assassination Investigation

Former FBI Director James Comey is under investigation for an Instagram post featuring seashells spelling out the numbers “8647,” which federal officials say could be read as a threat to kill President Trump.

Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem said the numbers are a reference to “86”—meaning “get rid of” or “remove”—and “47,” a reference to Trump as the 47th president.

“Disgraced former FBI Director James Comey just called for the assassination of @POTUS Trump,” Noem wrote on X. “DHS and Secret Service is investigating this threat and will respond appropriately.”

Comey deleted the Instagram photo, which he described as a “shell formation,” and said he was unaware that people associated the numbers 8647 with violence. President Trump said Comey “was calling for the assassination of the president.”

Top Cable Systems Set $34.5 Billion Merger

Charter Communications has agreed to merge with Cox Communications in a $34.5 billion deal that will combine two of the top three cable companies in the U.S., affecting nearly 40 million customers in over 40 states.

The move comes as cable companies face increasing pressure from “cord-cutters” cancelling their TV service in favor of streaming services.

Charter said Friday that it will acquire Cox Communications’ commercial fiber and managed IT and cloud businesses. Cox Enterprises will contribute Cox Communications’ residential cable business to Charter Holdings, an existing subsidiary partnership of Charter.

The combined company will retain the name of Atlanta-based Cox, and Charter’s Spectrum brand would become the consumer-facing brand. Company shareholders and federal regulators still have to approve the merger.

WNBA Season Tips Off with High Hopes

The 2025 WNBA season opened last night as the Dallas Wings and No. 1 draft pick Paige Bueckers took on the Minnesota Lynx. See the full season schedule here.

Today’s games continue with big-name match-ups. The 2024 defending champion NY Liberty takes on the Las Vegas Aces, who previously beat them in the 2023 WNBA Finals.

2024 saw immense growth for the WNBA, drawing an average of 1.2 million viewers per game–a 170% increase from the year before. Women’s basketball revenues are expected to top $1 billion worldwide this year.
