Article Icon 1A Miracle Mountain Rescue

What began as a quick three-day solo camping trip turned into a 24-day journey of survival for Tiffany Slaton, who went missing for weeks in California’s Sierra Nevada mountains. Injured and without cell service, she survived on wild leeks, melted snow, and daily journaling to stay sane.

Slaton pressed on, guided at one point by her phone’s suggestion of a Starbucks 18 miles away. She eventually found a remote cabin left unlocked by Vermilion Valley Resort owner Christopher Gutierrez, who keeps it open in case stranded hikers need shelter.

Inside, she found warmth and what she called “the best sleeping bag I had ever seen.” Gutierrez arrived at the cabin the next day—thanks to a newly plowed road—and found Slaton.

Her rescue, just one day before her 28th birthday, is being hailed as a miracle by local officials. Watch the press conference.

Article Icon 1Reggie the Boxer to the Rescue

A remarkable act of canine loyalty has people across Connecticut praising a dog named Reggie after home surveillance video captured him helping his housemate, a dog named Yogi, during a seizure.

The footage shows Reggie, a boxer, nudging and rolling Yogi to help him breathe, preventing him from aspirating, a serious risk for flat-faced breeds like French bulldogs.

The dogs’ owner, Sarah McCardle, shared the dramatic video on Facebook, where what initially appears to be play turns quickly into a life-threatening emergency. Yogi, who has suffered from seizures since he was a year old, was found unresponsive and turning blue by McCardle when she got home.

Thanks to Reggie’s quick thinking, Yogi was rushed to the vet and stabilized. The story touched hearts online, and Reggie was rewarded with a steak dinner—and the title of true best friend.
