Article Icon 1Texas Grandmas Travel World in Their 80s

Ellie Hamby and Dr. Sandy Hazelip, both 84 and from small-town Texas, just wrapped up a journey they dreamed about for decades—traveling the globe together.

The longtime friends first met on a mission trip in Africa and grew closer after losing their husbands, eventually turning late-night chats into a plan to see the world.

Their “around-the-world-in-80-days” adventure took them to all seven continents and nearly 50 countries, including a ride on the Trans-Siberian Railway and a tense moment in the Syrian desert. Watch a video here.

Back home, they’ve written a book and are spreading a simple message: it’s never too late to live boldly. “Get up out of your easy chair,” they say, “make a plan and live.”

Twelve-year-old leukemia survivor Harper Harrell and her mom have launched Harper’s Home, a nonprofit offering housing to families traveling for care at Duke Children’s Hospital.

After more than two years in treatment, Harper knows how hard it is to be far from home during a medical crisis.

The Durham-based project serves families living over 40 miles away. Two homes are open, with plans for six more. Funded by donors and volunteers, the homes run on a sliding scale—and they’re pet-friendly, just like Harper wanted. Watch a report here.

Now in remission, Harper hopes the homes give families a safe, cozy place to land during tough times.

🥰 Make sure to tune into this week’s Feel Good Flyover Podcast, where host Amy Hess interviews Harper and her mom about what they want all kids to have during their cancer treatments. Watch it here.

Article Icon 1Towering Sunflower of Hope

A Ukrainian-born gardener in Fort Wayne, Indiana, set a new world record after growing a sunflower that reached 35 feet, 9 inches, topping the previous record by 5 feet.

Alex Babich, 47, raised the giant bloom, nicknamed Clover, as a tribute to his homeland and its ongoing struggle during Russia’s invasion.

Babich began growing sunflowers after the Chernobyl disaster uprooted his family. With help from his 10-year-old son, the flower became a local marvel and will soon star in a documentary titled Bloom.

He now hands out sunflower seeds at festivals with the message: “Spread the love.” Watch a video report here.
