Article Icon 1Pearl Harbor Widow Donates Husband’s Bullet

Eighty-four years after the Pearl Harbor attack, 106-year-old Alice Beck Darrow has donated the bullet that pierced her late husband’s heart to the Pearl Harbor National Memorial Museum.

U.S. sailor Dean Darrow survived the 1941 attack aboard the USS West Virginia and met Alice, then a Navy nurse, while recovering at Mare Island Naval Hospital.

Surgeons later removed the bullet, which the couple kept as a symbol of survival throughout their 49-year marriage.

It’s the first time the relic has left Alice’s possession since World War II—now part of America’s shared history.

Jennifer McLaughlin was just 9 years old when her sister was killed in a car crash in Fullerton, California.

In the chaotic aftermath of the accident, one stranger stayed by her side: Rhonda Ray, a young mom who comforted Jennifer, rode with her to the hospital, and waited until her parents arrived.

Decades later, Jennifer posted in a local Facebook group, hoping to find Rhonda. The message reached Rhonda’s daughter, leading to an emotional reunion marked by tears and a long-overdue expression of gratitude.

Back in touch, the two are bonded for life by a single act of kindness neither ever forgot. Watch the video.

At a military hospital in Bogotá, Colombia, emotional support dogs are helping soldiers recover from war wounds and trauma.

The “furry force” visits troops injured by landmines and drone attacks, offering comfort and companionship. Watch a video of dogs in action.

Launched in 2024, the program now allows patients to bring their own pets and provides wellness sessions for hospital staff.

For soldiers like Luis Miguel López, who lost a leg to a mine, the dogs have helped lift depression and revive memories of loyal canine comrades in combat.
