Trump Heads to Mideast Amid Fragile Truce
President Trump is en route to Israel ahead of a major Middle East summit, where he is expected to mark a historic hostage-prisoner exchange and promote a U.S.-brokered ceasefire between Israel and Hamas.
Vice President JD Vance said the remaining hostages could be released “any moment now,” while Israeli Prime Minister Netanyahu called the moment historic, declaring Israel is ready to receive them. Under the agreement, Hamas will release 48 Israeli hostages—20 believed to be alive—in exchange for 250 prisoners and more than 1,700 Palestinian detainees.
Ahead of Trump’s arrival, U.S. Special Envoy Steve Witkoff, Ivanka Trump, and Jared Kushner addressed a Tel Aviv rally on Saturday, where the crowds unfurled banners praising Trump for the ceasefire and hostage release. See photos here.
Co-hosting the peace summit in Egypt, Trump sees the truce offering a rare opening to broker peace, even though key issues like Gaza’s future governance and Hamas disarmament remain unresolved. Humanitarian aid has begun entering Gaza, and agencies are preparing to scale up relief efforts.

Nor’easter Slams East Coast
A powerful nor’easter battered the East Coast over the weekend, flooding coastal communities, toppling power lines, and forcing hundreds of flight delays and cancellations.
The storm brought winds up to 60 mph and dumped several inches of rain from the Carolinas to Massachusetts, prompting states of emergency in New Jersey and parts of New York.
In Alaska, meanwhile, the remnants of Typhoon Halong caused catastrophic flooding in remote villages, sweeping away homes and leaving some residents unaccounted for.
Across the East Coast, officials warned of continued risk from beach erosion, storm surge, and high tides through Monday. The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) issued ground stops at major airports, including JFK, LaGuardia, and Boston Logan, with some delays exceeding 100 minutes.

Professor Finds Roman Tombstone in Backyard
A Tulane professor digging in her New Orleans backyard unearthed a 2nd-century Roman tombstone that had been missing since World War II, sparking an international investigation.
The marble marker, belonging to a Roman Imperial Navy officer, vanished from a museum in Civitavecchia, Italy, after a 1943 bombing.
Experts from Tulane and the University of New Orleans confirmed its authenticity, and the artifact has been turned over to the FBI Art Crime Team for repatriation.
Italy plans to officially receive the stone back in a ceremony slated for summer 2026. Watch a video report here.
