Navy Rescues Survivors of Drug Boat Strike

The U.S. military has taken two survivors into custody following a Thursday military strike on an alleged drug-smuggling boat in the Caribbean, authorities said.

U.S. Navy helicopters were dispatched as part of the search and rescue team after overhead video showed people who seemed to have survived the initial strike. The individuals were picked up and transferred to a U.S. Navy ship.

Two U.S. officials said the strike was the sixth carried out under the Trump administration as it continues targeting smuggling vessels operated by drug cartels. The vessel involved was a submersible, long associated with the drug trade, which sits just below the water line.

Meanwhile, Adm. Alvin Holsey, the 37-year veteran commander overseeing military operations in Latin America and the Caribbean, unexpectedly announced he was retiring from the service. Pentagon chief Pete Hegseth praised Holsey for his long service.

King Charles, Pope Meet for Historic Prayer

King Charles III is set to join Pope Leo XIV in prayer inside the Sistine Chapel on Oct. 23, marking the first time since the Protestant Reformation that a reigning British monarch and a pope will pray together publicly.

The Catholic Church and Church of England, long divided by doctrine, will reunite after more than 400 years to join in ecumenical prayer to the care of God’s creation.

Charles will also receive a formal new title and recognition at a pontifical basilica with historic ties to the Church of England.

Queen Camilla will join Charles and meet six Catholic sisters from the International Union of Superiors General, who advance female empowerment through education programs and efforts to combat human trafficking.

Stock ownership accounts for nearly half of all U.S. household wealth, according to a J.P. Morgan report on the state of national U.S. household finances in the first quarter of 2025.

Home ownership accounts for another 27% of household wealth, followed by pensions at 17% and then bank accounts at 8%.
