Good Morning! On this day in 1962, after losing the governor’s election in California, Richard Nixon gave what he called his “last press conference,” telling reporters that “you don’t have Nixon to kick around anymore.” Six years later, he was elected president.
🎄 In yesterday’s poll, we asked if it was too early for Christmas music. 78% of our poll respondents said Nov. 1 is too early. We suspect the other 22% probably work for Big Santa. (Though we did discover after our own vigorous debate that our founder, Guy, already has his Christmas lights up.) Thanks for voting!
If you’re ready to scale your next big idea without slowing down, today’s sponsor, Upwork Business Plus, makes it easy to hire top freelancers fast—so you can focus on growth, not guesswork.

Musk Wins $1 Trillion Package
Tesla shareholders overwhelmingly approved an unprecedented $1 trillion potential compensation package for CEO Elon Musk on Thursday, a record-setting deal he had suggested was necessary for him to remain with the company.
The approval, with more than 75% of shareholders voting in favor, serves as a significant show of confidence despite a recent dip in the company’s stock performance and concerns raised by proxy advisory firms and major investors.
The colossal compensation is contingent on Musk hitting a series of aggressive performance and valuation targets for Tesla over the next decade, which include achieving a market capitalization of up to $8.5 trillion and meeting production goals for vehicles and its Optimus humanoid robots.
This newly approved package replaces a previous $56 billion plan that was struck down by a Delaware judge, prompting the company to hold a fresh vote and argue that Musk’s leadership is crucial for achieving complex future goals, such as the “robot army” and self-driving taxis. Take a look at the chart explaining the package.

Deal Cuts Weight-Loss Drug Prices
President Trump announced a deal with Novo Nordisk and Eli Lilly to lower costs and expand coverage for their popular GLP-1 medications, including Ozempic, Wegovy, and Zepbound, which are used for diabetes and weight loss.
The agreement establishes a lower “most favored nation” rate for Medicare and expands government-run coverage to include obesity indications for severely overweight senior citizens with specific comorbidities.
Under the plan, future FDA-approved oral medications will be available for approximately $149 per month on the forthcoming TrumpRx platform and for Medicare beneficiaries.
Existing injectable GLP-1s, which can currently cost over $1,000 monthly, will see their direct-to-consumer price drop to $350 initially, trending down to $245 over two years, in exchange for the companies receiving regulatory certainty and relief from the administration’s threat of 200% tariffs.

Nancy Pelosi Announces Retirement
U.S. Representative Nancy Pelosi, D-Calif., announced Thursday that she will not seek re-election, ending a nearly four-decade career in Congress that culminated in her becoming the first and only woman to serve as Speaker of the House of Representatives.
Pelosi held the top position for two non-consecutive terms and was instrumental in securing the House passage of key legislation, including the Affordable Care Act under President Barack Obama.
Her later tenure as speaker included presiding over two House votes to impeach President Trump. After her retirement announcement, Trump released a statement saying he was “very honored she impeached me twice and failed miserably twice.”
Pelosi will conclude her current term as a representative for California in January 2027.
