Question: Who was the only U.S. president to have once been an executioner?

Answer: Grover Cleveland, the 22nd and 24th president (the only president besides President Trump to serve two non-consecutive terms) executed two criminals by hanging back when he was the Erie County Sheriff, a position he was elected to in 1870. Though he only held the job for one term, his opponents in his first presidential election 15 years later still dubbed him the “Buffalo Hangman.”
