Good Morning! On this day in 1945, U.S. Marines raised an American flag on Iwo Jima, producing one of World War II’s most iconic images.
Yesterday marked the final day of the Milano Cortina 2026 Winter Olympic Games, and Team USA’s men’s ice hockey team closed it with a 2-1 overtime win over Canada for gold. The celebration turned emotional as the team honored the late Johnny Gaudreau, then brought his kids onto the ice to share the moment. With that, we’re saying goodbye to our Olympics section below. We hope you had a blast following along with us. What was your favorite Olympic moment? Reply to this email and let us know.
Additionally, to brighten your Monday, The Feel Good Flyover has moved from Friday to Monday and will land in your inbox later today, along with a new episode of The Feel Good Flyover Podcast.
Today’s sponsor, GoldCo, is sharing a warning about a potential $2.5 trillion “avalanche” that could impact the U.S. dollar, along with what smart retirement savers are doing right now to help protect and diversify their wealth.

Team USA Tops Canada For Hockey Gold
Team USA beat Canada 2-1 in an instant classic gold medal hockey match yesterday morning, a fitting bookend to close out the 2026 Winter Olympics. A heroic defensive effort in the third period forced overtime, setting up an iconic game-winning goal by 24-year-old Jack Hughes to give the Americans gold. See the shot.
The final shot deserves headlines, but the game’s most valuable player may have been U.S. goaltender Connor Hellebuyck, who made 41 saves in all, including a reach-back stop that some observers are hailing as one of the greatest saves ever.
“This is all about our country. I love the USA, I love my teammates,” said a teary-eyed (and now toothless) Jack Hughes after the game, “I’m so proud to be an American today.” See the interview here.
It’s the first U.S. gold medal in men’s hockey since the Miracle on Ice in 1980, ending a 46-year drought. It’s also the first time that the U.S. men’s and women’s teams have won gold in the same Olympics—both prevailing over the Canadians. Sore-ee!

Armed Intruder Killed at Mar-a-Lago
A North Carolina man was shot and killed by Secret Service agents and a Palm Beach County deputy after he entered the secure perimeter of President Trump’s Mar-a-Lago estate carrying a shotgun and a gas can.
Twenty-one-year-old Austin Tucker Martin drove into the secured area early Sunday morning as another vehicle was exiting. When confronted by agents, Martin put down the gas can but raised the shotgun, and law enforcement fired.
Martin’s family reported him missing, and investigators believe he obtained the shotgun while traveling south to Florida. The president and First Lady were at the White House at the time of the incident.
Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt praised the Secret Service’s response and criticized Democrats for the partial government shutdown affecting the Department of Homeland Security.

Mexican Military Kills Drug Cartel Leader
Mexican military forces killed Nemesio “El Mencho” Oseguera Cervantes, the head of the Jalisco New Generation Cartel, during a raid in western Mexico on Sunday.
The U.S. had a $15 million bounty on the drug kingpin, whose organization was designated a foreign terrorist organization by the Trump administration last year.
The killing triggered violent cartel retaliation across multiple Mexican states, with burning roadblocks, gunfire, and chaos at airports paralyzing the region. Tourists in Puerto Vallarta were told to shelter in place, and several airlines canceled flights into the area. See photos here.
The U.S. military confirmed it played a supporting intelligence role in the operation, though officials emphasized it was a Mexican-led effort. A former DEA chief called it one of the most significant actions in the history of drug trafficking.
