 Artemis II Astronauts Return Safely to Earth
NASA’s Artemis II crew splashed down in the Pacific Ocean off San Diego at 8:07 p.m. ET on Friday, completing a historic 10-day, 695,081-mile journey around the moon, the first crewed lunar mission since Apollo 17 in 1972. Here’s video of the return.
Commander Reid Wiseman, pilot Victor Glover, mission specialist Christina Koch, and Canadian mission specialist Jeremy Hansen returned safely after setting a record for the farthest distance humans have ever traveled from Earth, 252,760 miles.
Reentry posed significant risks because Orion’s heat shield had known design flaws, prompting NASA to plan a modified, steeper descent path to reduce exposure to extreme temperatures. Mission Control reported the landing as a perfect bullseye.
Navy divers assisted the crew onto an inflatable raft before helicopters transported them to the USS John P. Murtha for medical evaluations ahead of their return to NASA’s Johnson Space Center in Houston.

Trump Warns Iran to Open Strait
President Trump accused Iran of doing a “very poor job” allowing oil through the Strait of Hormuz and warned Tehran to stop charging fees to transiting ships, threatening renewed military action if the ceasefire terms aren’t honored.
The strait, which normally carries about 20% of the world’s oil supply, remains effectively closed despite the two-week ceasefire announced Tuesday. Only a handful of vessels have passed through, far below the pre-war average of over 100 per day.
Intelligence officials confirmed Iran’s Revolutionary Guard Corps is controlling access and demanding fees from ships. Reports suggest Tehran plans to charge the cryptocurrency equivalent of $1 per barrel of oil on board.
Vice President JD Vance departed Friday for negotiations in Islamabad, Pakistan, warning Iran not to negotiate in bad faith. He is joined by envoy Steve Witkoff and Trump advisor Jared Kushner.

Ranking: World’s Largest Air Forces
A new ranking of global air power shows that the U.S. dominates in the sky, with 13,032 military aircraft, more than the next three countries combined.
Russia ranks second at 4,237, with China third at 3,529. America’s 1,791 fighters alone surpass many nations’ entire fleets, according to data from GlobalFirepower.
Six of the top eight air forces are based in Asia, underscoring the region’s growing military focus as countries like India, Japan, and South Korea rapidly modernize their aerial capabilities.
The ranking also reveals that smaller air forces, such as those of France, Israel, and Taiwan, maintain strong combat readiness through concentrated investment in fighter aircraft. See the full chart here.
