 Tulsi Gabbard Resigns as Intelligence Chief
Tulsi Gabbard announced her resignation as Director of National Intelligence, effective June 30, stepping down from the nation’s top spy post after months of reported friction with the broader intelligence community.
Gabbard said she was leaving the nation’s top spy post to care for her husband, Abraham, who was recently diagnosed with a rare form of bone cancer.
President Trump announced on Truth Social that Aaron Lukas, the Deputy Director of National Intelligence, would serve as acting DNI director. The DNI oversees 18 federal intelligence agencies and serves as the president’s principal intelligence adviser.
A former Democratic congresswoman, Gabbard was one of President Trump’s most high-profile cabinet picks. She oversaw a transformational effort to reshape the DNI operation, reducing the agency in size and declassifying more than half a million pages of government records, including those related to the Trump-Russia investigation, and the JFK and RFK assassinations.

Consumer Confidence Hits 4-Year Low
American confidence in the economy hit its lowest point in nearly four years, with Gallup’s Economic Confidence Index falling to negative 45 in May, a 7-point drop from April that matches a record low set in October 2022.
Only 16% of Americans rated economic conditions as excellent or good in the Gallup survey, while nearly half said conditions are poor. Three-quarters say the economy is getting worse, the highest share since May 2023. Here are the full survey results.
The rise in gas prices is a key factor for consumers, with prices averaging $4.55 a gallon nationally as the Strait of Hormuz closure chokes global oil supply. Gallup noted, however, that confidence is still higher than in June 2022, when gas prices soared amid the Russian invasion of Ukraine.

List: Oldest Bar in Every State
A roundup of the oldest bar in every state reveals that America’s drinking history goes back a lot further than most people realize, with the winner dating all the way to 1673—or is it 1668?
Rhode Island’s White Horse Tavern has been serving drinks continuously since 1673 and holds the country’s oldest tavern license. But New York’s ’76 House in Tappan argues that its building dates to 1668, which would make the structure itself older, even if regular whiskey service wasn’t available.
Of course, most states’ older bars are far younger. You can trace the expansion of the United States by when the first bars opened in each new state heading west, until you reach Hawaii, where Smith’s Union Bar didn’t open until 1935. See the oldest bar in your state here.
