 Blanche Faces Senate Fight for AG Post
President Trump announced he will nominate acting Attorney General Todd Blanche to permanently lead the Justice Department, elevating his former defense attorney to the nation’s top law enforcement role.
Blanche faces resistance in his own party on the Senate Judiciary Committee, where he can lose only one Republican vote and multiple GOP members remain uncommitted, largely over the issue of the administration’s controversial $1.776 billion Anti-Weaponization Fund
Blanche told lawmakers that the fund was dead, but refused to put it in writing. Trump then told reporters he didn’t know if the fund was truly finished, calling it “a beautiful thing.”
Multiple GOP senators filed amendments Thursday to kill the fund through legislation, with one retiring senator warning that Blanche won’t survive his confirmation hearing unless the issue is fully resolved.

Texas Passes California as Fortune 500 Capital
Texas has overtaken California as home to the most Fortune 500 companies, claiming 57 headquarters to California’s 56 on this year’s list.
The shift was driven by companies like Tesla, McKesson, and Oracle relocating to Texas, drawn by the Lone Star State’s lack of personal income tax and lighter regulation.
Meanwhile, a proposed California ballot measure would impose a one-time 5% wealth tax on residents with assets over $1 billion, a move critics say is accelerating the exodus.
Texas also led the nation in population growth last year, adding more than 391,000 residents while California posted some of the steepest losses.

Sherpa Found Alive After Week on Everest
A 52-year-old Sherpa guide was found crawling toward Mount Everest’s base camp after surviving about a week on the mountain without food or oxygen.
His wife and daughter had already begun funeral rituals when they learned he was alive. His daughter asked for photos before she could believe the news.
A cleanup crew spotted Dawa Sherpa near the Khumbu Icefall, still in his summit suit with severe frostbite on his hands. He was helicoptered to a hospital in Kathmandu. See a photo of the sherpa here.
