Ohio Woman Honors Forgotten Veterans 

Christine Untrauer is on a mission to honor veterans buried in unmarked graves across Portage County, Ohio.

Drawing from her own family’s military legacy, she’s identified 49 veterans buried without markers at Maple Grove Cemetery, including four in a section for people who couldn’t afford proper burials. Watch a video report here.

While Veterans Affairs provides free markers, installation costs more—something Untrauer covers through donations.

She aims to expand this work to all 29 cemeteries in the county, ensuring no veteran is forgotten.

Locals Featured on Trading Cards in Japan

In the rural town of Kawara, Japan, children are swapping Pokémon for something a little more familiar: handmade trading cards that feature local middle-aged men as their stars. 

The cards spotlight real community members like retired fire chief Mr. Honda and soba noodle artisan Mr. Takeshita—each complete with stats, elemental powers, and lovingly drawn portraits.

Sold exclusively at the Saidosho Center, these cards have quickly become cultural icons—turning everyday legends into collectible heroes.

Trio of Strays Rescued Together, Stay Together

A real-life Homeward Bound story unfolded in Vermont as two dogs and a cat—River, Rain, and Reed—were rescued after sticking together on the streets. See their photo here.

After the rescue, it quickly became clear the animals had been through a lot. While the dogs warmed up quickly, the cat remained withdrawn—until he was reunited with his canine companions.
