Good Morning! On this day in 1775, Paul Revere and William Dawes rode out from Boston on their famous ride, alerting Colonial leaders about British soldiers planning a mission to remove arms and supplies from the countryside.
A growing number of high schools are now “sleep training” teenagers, recognizing that better rest can mean better mental health and academic success. And let’s be honest—most of us could probably use a little sleep training, too. Read more in Et Cetera below.
Mistake Tracking: Thursday’s issue mistakenly referred to President Trump as “former president.” Of course, President Trump is the current president. That was a typo and not intended, and our proofreaders didn’t catch the error. We apologize for the mistake.

FSU Shooting Leaves 2 Dead, 6 Injured
Two people were killed and six others injured Thursday when a 20-year-old Florida State University student opened fire near the campus student union in Tallahassee.
The suspect, Phoenix Ikner—identified as the son of a longtime Leon County sheriff’s deputy—was shot by responding officers and hospitalized. Authorities say he used weapons connected to his mother, who has served with the department for over 18 years.
Witnesses described chaos as students fled or barricaded classrooms. One bystander said the gunman exited an orange Hummer with a rifle, then returned for a handgun before firing at random.
Police say the area remains an active crime scene. The motive is still under investigation by local, state, and federal agencies.
Judge: Google Ran Illegal Ad Monopoly
A federal judge ruled Thursday that Google violated antitrust law by monopolizing two key markets in digital advertising—publisher ad servers and ad exchanges.
Judge Leonie Brinkema found Google abused its ad dominance and “substantially harmed” competitors and online publishers who depend on ad dollars.
The case now heads to a penalty phase, with the Justice Department expected to push for a breakup of parts of Google’s ad business.
Scientists Find Signs of Extra-Terrestrial Life
A Cambridge team has found the strongest sign yet of potential alien life on a world known as K2-18b—a planet over twice Earth’s size, eight times its mass, and orbiting in its star’s habitable zone 124 light-years from Earth.
Using NASA’s James Webb Space Telescope, researchers spotted the molecules dimethyl sulphide (DMS) and dimethyl disulphide (DMDS), which, on Earth, are produced solely by simple marine life.
While the findings mark a significant leap from previous data, the results are still short of scientific confirmation, with a confidence level of 99.7%—shy of the 99.99999% “discovery” threshold.
The planet’s atmosphere suggests the presence of a vast ocean, but researchers caution that non-living processes might explain the gas signatures. More data is expected within the next year or two.
