Article Icon 1Plumbers Save Grandmother from Bee Swarm

Two plumbers in Santee, California, are credited with saving a grandmother’s life after she was attacked by a swarm of bees.

Diosdado San Roque and his partner had just wrapped up a job when they saw a woman collapsing in a driveway, covered in bees. San Roque caught her before she hit the ground, shielding her as his partner was using a fire extinguisher to drive the bees back.

The pair then lured the swarm into their van, enduring dozens of stings in the process, until emergency crews arrived.

The woman had a severe reaction but is recovering. First responders say the plumbers’ quick actions likely saved her life.

Sam Heintz was just 5 when a rare kidney disease landed him in intensive care for a month.

By age 8, he needed a transplant and was lucky to find a donor match—but his family had one big ask: place the new kidney on his left side so he could keep swinging a bat. Sam plays baseball left-handed, and the usual placement would’ve put the organ right in the line of fire.

That decision turned out to be a game-changer. Now 16, Sam is healthy, back at first base, and playing like nothing ever happened.

Amsterdam is taking steps, literally, to keep its feline residents safe. The city has approved a $116,000 plan to install wooden “cat ladders” along canal walls, which will help cats climb out safely if they fall in.

An animal welfare group came up with the idea after local rescue teams flagged several high-risk areas. Nineteen cats have drowned in a canal so far this year. Steep canal walls and narrow streets make it hard for cats to escape on their own.

The project will roll out later this year, giving neighborhood cats a safer way to explore and a better chance of landing on their feet.
