Article Icon 1Pilot Uses Gospel to Stop Hijacker

The pilot of a Samaritan’s Purse aircraft thwarted a hijacking in South Sudan by sharing the Christian Gospel with the armed man who had sneaked onto the plane and demanded to be flown to Chad.

Franklin Graham, President and CEO of the Boone, North Carolina-based Christian aid group, recounted that after the hijacker pulled a gun and threatened to kill the pilot, the pilot shared that “God loves him,” causing the man to begin crying and surrender.

The plane landed safely in Wau, where South Sudanese authorities took the man into custody. No one was hurt, and the aid group says it’s reviewing security protocols.

About 75 farmers from more than 10 communities showed up earlier this month after North Dakota farmer Randy Fyllesvold died in a crash to finish his final harvest.

Twelve combines, seven grain carts, and over 40 trucks showed up to clear 1,400 acres of corn.

The effort was led by fellow farmers Wyatt Thompson and Andy Gates, who coordinated logistics with local grain elevators to ensure a smooth, large-scale operation. Watch a video report.

Randy’s widow, Kharra, called the scene “breathtaking,” thanking everyone who helped finish the job her husband started.

Shadow, a family cat from Oklahoma, survived five months alone in the Canadian Rockies after vanishing during a summer road trip. He was finally found near Liard Hot Springs, British Columbia.

Two Canadians, Christine Sutherland and Bruce Kosugi, are helping get him home. Despite being allergic to cats, Kosugi drove Shadow eight hours, and Sutherland will fly him to Winnipeg, where the family will reunite and drive the final stretch.

The Barton kids even offered to skip Christmas gifts to help cover travel costs, a gesture that speaks to just how much Shadow means to the family.
