Mom of Two Starts Law School at 47

Abigail Seymour spent most of her career behind a camera. But a nagging feeling never went away. In her twenties, she walked the 485-mile Camino de Santiago across Spain alone, and the experience left her with a conviction that she could handle anything. Decades later, she kept driving past Elon University School of Law in her North Carolina town and thinking, “It’s right there.”

At 47, with two kids at home, she enrolled. Her sister died during her first year, and she nearly dropped out. She failed the bar twice. After the second attempt, her therapist told her, “Everything you want is on the other side of comfort.” On her third try, she passed.

Today, Abigail, 59, runs Camino Law, a bilingual, all-women family law firm in Greensboro with seven employees. In 2024, she was named one of North Carolina Lawyers Weekly’s 50 Most Influential Women.

“I found a job, and I created one for seven other people,” she said. “There’s a real pride in that.”

Teen Saves Woman With Dementia

Royal Cothrun, 14, was riding his bike through Gilbert, Arizona, when he spotted 75-year-old Teresa Morgan walking alone in 103-degree heat. She looked confused. He stopped. “She just looked like something was wrong, so I started talking to her.”

Teresa had recently been diagnosed with dementia and had wandered miles from home after a trip to the grocery store. Royal guided her to a shaded spot, then helped her remember her son’s phone number. He called her son, Jeff, who raced to the scene before paramedics arrived.

“Just so lucky, so fortunate that he ran across her and he cared enough to stay with her and to take care of her,” Jeff said. A Gilbert Fire Department captain said the outcome “would have been much, much worse” without Royal’s quick thinking.

Royal’s mom said she was proud but not surprised that he stopped to help Teresa, saying that helping people has always been a part of who her son is.

Meet Jimothy, Seattle’s Favorite Raccoon

Kiana Hall thought she was filming a cat. She and her husband were walking through Seattle’s Ballard neighborhood when she spotted something scooting out from beneath a parked car. It turned out to be a raccoon with an unusually short neck and a perfectly round body. She had never seen anything like it.

Kiana posted the video to Instagram, naming him “Jimothy” because “he looked like a Jimothy.” Within days, the clip had more than 7 million views. Wildlife experts say his appearance is likely the result of a congenital spinal deformity, but he appears to be thriving in the wild.

Seattle has fully embraced him. The Mariners briefly changed their profile picture to Jimothy in a team hat. A local artist painted a mural. A tattoo shop has booked Jimothy-inspired tattoos. A Seattle city councilmember plans to present a proclamation commemorating “Jimothy Summer.”
