Good Morning! On this day in 1910, the first Father’s Day was celebrated in Spokane, Washington, created by Sonora Smart Dodd and local ministers. By the 1920s, the idea had spread across the country, and it became an official U.S. holiday in 1972.
A college baseball player hit a home run on the final swing of his career, then got a high-five from the opposing second baseman: his own brother. We have details in Sports. What’s your relationship with your siblings like? Vote in our poll and share any stories you have by replying to this email.
Today’s sponsor is GOVMINT. America’s 250th birthday is just around the corner, and many Americans are taking time to reflect on the people, symbols, and history that helped shape our nation. That’s one reason collectible pieces tied to America’s heritage are drawing renewed interest. One example is the Morgan Silver Bar from GOVMINT, inspired by one of the most iconic designs in American history.

Oil Flows as Iran Deal Takes Effect
The U.S. lifted its naval blockade of Iran on Thursday, and oil tankers began moving through the Strait of Hormuz for the first time in 110 days, as the deal to end the war officially took effect.
Vice President Vance said more than 12.5 million barrels of oil passed through the strait Wednesday night alone, calling it proof the agreement is already working.
The White House delivered the 14-point memorandum to Congress after days of bipartisan complaints that lawmakers hadn’t seen the text.
Iran’s supreme leader endorsed direct talks with the U.S. but said Trump came to the deal “out of desperation.” A 60-day window to negotiate a final agreement on Iran’s nuclear program starts now.

SCOTUS Limits Drug Users’ Gun Ban
The Supreme Court unanimously ruled Thursday that the government can’t automatically strip gun rights from people who use marijuana, finding that the prosecution of a Texas man for owning a handgun while being a regular pot user violated the Second Amendment.
Justice Neil Gorsuch wrote the narrow opinion in U.S. v. Hemani, saying the government can’t simply declare all marijuana users “categorically violent and dangerous” without further proof.
The case involved Ali Hemani, whose Glock was seized during an FBI raid of his parents’ home in 2022.
The ruling limits the same federal law that was used to prosecute Hunter Biden in 2024 before former President Biden pardoned his son.

Robin Hood’s Legendary Tree Dies
The Major Oak in Sherwood Forest, the 1,200-year-old tree that legend says sheltered Robin Hood inside its hollow trunk, is believed to have died after failing to produce leaves this spring.
The Royal Society for the Protection of Birds said centuries of visitors compacted the soil around the massive oak until it was as hard as concrete, strangling the root system and cutting off water and nutrients. The tree had been fenced off since the 1970s, but the damage was already deep.
Metal bracing, concrete fills, and structural props meant to save the tree likely made things worse, preventing it from aging naturally. Recent heatwaves and drought compounded the decline.
The oak will remain standing as a wildlife habitat and monument, and saplings from the tree have been planted around the world. A Hugh Jackman film, The Death of Robin Hood, opens Friday. Watch a report here.
