Judge Blocks Honor System at Border
A federal judge temporarily stopped the Biden administration from releasing migrants into the U.S. without a court date.
The ruling came hours before the expiration of Title 42 (a Covid-era policy that resulted in many migrants being turned away at the southern border). Although the administration is replacing Title 42 with new deportation guidance, huge surges in immigration are happening now to the tune of 10,000 people per day—more than the border infrastructure can handle.
In response to already-overloaded border sectors, the head of the U.S. Border Patrol authorized the use of parole release: a protocol that allows migrants to enter the country without an alien registration number or court date.
Judge T. Kent Wetherell II reversed the authorization, putting a two-week restraining order on the policy.

New CEO Coming to Twitter
Elon Musk once said that he would hand over the CEO role at Twitter once he found someone “foolish enough to take the job.”
He’s apparently found someone that meets the criteria: Musk referred to the unnamed replacement as “she” and said the hire will be complete in about six weeks. The most likely candidate is Linda Yaccarino, a veteran advertising sales executive for NBCUniversal.
Twitter has lost advertising revenue since Musk took over, and shareholders are hopeful that Yaccarino—or someone like her—will entice advertisers to resume buying ad space on the platform.

Former Marine Charged for NYC Subway Death
A decorated Marine veteran is being charged with manslaughter by Manhattan DA Alvin Bragg.
Daniel Penny was riding a train in NYC when, according to witnesses, a man named Jordan Neely began harassing and aggressively threatening passengers. Penny intervened and subdued the belligerent man with a chokehold, and Neely eventually died.
“Daniel never intended to harm Mr. Neely and could not have foreseen his untimely death,” Penny’s lawyer said in a statement.
A video of the incident went viral, and protests sprang up in response. Penny was released after telling police he didn’t intend to kill Neely, but now he’ll face a second-degree manslaughter charge.
