DOJ to Investigate Fed Governor
The Department of Justice has launched a criminal investigation into Federal Reserve Governor Lisa Cook, following a referral from Bill Pulte, who leads the Federal Housing Finance Agency.
President Trump last month fired Cook “for cause,” but Cook has refused to resign and filed a lawsuit challenging the legality of her termination.
The Justice Department probe centers on allegations that Cook may have committed mortgage fraud by claiming two separate homes—in Michigan and Georgia—as her primary residences to receive favorable loan terms.
The DOJ has issued subpoenas in both states and placed the investigation under the oversight of Ed Martin, a senior DOJ official.
Cook’s case is now before a federal judge, who has scheduled hearings for a temporary court order to reinstate her. It’s unclear how the criminal investigation will impact that.

Social Security Paper Checks End Sept. 30
After 90 years, social security payments will no longer be sent by mail starting Sept. 30, with paper checks being phased out to reduce fraud, cut costs, and speed up delivery.
Paper checks cost around 50 cents each, more than three times the cost of an electronic transfer, and are 16 times more likely to be lost or stolen, according to the Social Security Administration.
Fewer than 1% of the nearly 70 million recipients—about 500,000 people—still rely on physical checks and will need to switch to direct deposit or a prepaid Direct Express card.

NFL Opens With Eagles Victory
The NFL season kicked off last night in a rain-delayed game as the defending Super Bowl champion Philadelphia Eagles beat the Dallas Cowboys 24-20.
Eagles’ star defender Jalen Carter was ejected from the game before it even began for spitting on Cowboys quarterback Dak Prescott. Videos later showed Prescott had spit in his direction first.
The Eagles are one of the pre-season favorites to win the Super Bowl this year, along with the Baltimore Ravens and the Buffalo Bills. The Kansas City Chiefs—led by Patrick Mahomes and Travis Kelce—enter the season with the fourth-best odds.
Off the field, fans will need to spend more than ever to keep up. Ten different outlets will carry NFL games this season, which would amount to over $750 in streaming subscriptions for a fan to catch all of the biggest games.
Action continues tonight as the Kansas City Chiefs take on the LA Chargers in Brazil, followed by a full slate of games on Sunday.
