 Trump Taunts Canada as Trade War Deepens
President Trump escalated the trade war with Canada overnight, posting on Truth Social that “Canada wants the benefits of being a State, without being one!!!” The post came hours after his 50% tariffs on $20 billion in Canadian goods took effect Saturday.
Prime Minister Mark Carney announced dollar-for-dollar retaliation starting Sept. 8, targeting American steel, dairy, appliances, and electronics. He called the new U.S. tariffs “designed to hurt us and divide us” and “a miscalculation.”
Talks collapsed late Friday after Ottawa accused Washington of a last-minute “power play.” Carney said, “America is trying to break us so they can own us. That will never, ever happen.”
The U.S. tariffs cover 569 product categories, including lumber, dairy, and hockey sticks, and could raise prices for American consumers. See the full list here. Energy and critical minerals are exempt, but border states like Minnesota and New York are most exposed.

Kirkwood Wins First-Ever DC Grand Prix
Kyle Kirkwood held off Christian Lundgaard by just over three seconds Sunday to win the Freedom 250 Grand Prix, the first IndyCar race ever run through the streets of Washington, D.C. See photos here.
President Trump waved the green flag after he and first lady Melania Trump circled the course in the armored presidential limousine known as “the Beast.” Trump joked he would go “slightly slower than the ones we’re going to witness.” See the opening lap here.
The 147-lap race looped the National Mall with the Capitol as a backdrop, complete with a bald eagle release and a flyover by Air Force One escorted by fighter jets.
Trump ordered up the race in January as part of America’s 250th birthday celebrations. Points leader Alex Palou never contended after a string of pit-lane errors sent him to the back of the field.

Robot Breaks Usain Bolt’s 100-Meter Record
A humanoid robot named Tiangong Ultra ran the 100-meter dash in 9.39 seconds Saturday at the World Humanoid Robot Games in Beijing, beating Usain Bolt’s human world record of 9.58 seconds, set in 2009.
The robot, built by Beijing-based X-Humanoid, couldn’t stop like a human sprinter and slammed into a cushioned wall past the finish line. A rival robot that also beat Bolt’s time collapsed and left the track on a stretcher. Watch scenes from the games here.
Another X-Humanoid machine cleared 2.88 meters in the high jump, well above the 2.45-meter human record. More than 2,000 robots from 16 countries are competing in 51 events, including soccer, boxing, and tug of war, through Wednesday.
The games double as a showcase in the U.S.-China robotics race. Washington banned humanoid robot imports last month, citing national security, while China builds most of the world’s humanoids. Watch a video here.
