Good Morning! On this day in 1914, carmaker Henry Ford announced an increase in the pay of assembly-line workers to $5 a day, doubling the previous wage. He also implemented home inspections to determine eligibility for the new wage, based on whether workers were leading morally upright lives.
As we report below, scientists believe they may have developed an anti-aging drug that can partially reverse the aging process by resetting cells to a more youthful state. Human trials are set to begin this year. Would you take it if it were to work? Reply to let us know.
Today’s sponsor, ChooseGLP1, helps readers cut through the noise by comparing top telehealth providers so you can save hundreds on FDA-approved GLP-1 weight-loss medications without insurance or endless doctor visits.

Venezuela’s New Leader Rejects Trump
President Trump threatened Venezuela’s newly appointed interim leader, Delcy Rodríguez, with consequences “probably bigger than Maduro” after she rejected working with his administration on Sunday.
Rodriguez declared loyalty to the captured dictator despite Trump praising her Saturday as “necessary to make Venezuela great again.”
Trump administration officials have told American oil executives they must invest billions to rebuild Venezuela’s shattered petroleum infrastructure if they want compensation for assets seized decades ago, but industry leaders remain cautious about the safety of employees and equipment in a country where leadership remains uncertain, and oil prices hover around $57 per barrel.
Secretary of State Marco Rubio rejected Rodriguez as legitimate and called for free elections during a transition period, though he said conversations about a potential vote would be “premature.”

Gas Prices Drop Below $3 Nationally
The national average for gasoline fell to $2.83 per gallon to start 2026, marking the fifth straight week of declines and the lowest prices Americans have seen so far this year.
Hawaii remains the most expensive state at $4.42 per gallon. Oklahoma is the cheapest at $2.24, and the lowest-priced markets are now in the low-$2 range as refineries boost output and demand remains seasonally soft.
The Energy Information Administration projects prices will hover around $3 per gallon throughout 2026 as Brent crude falls from $69 per barrel in 2025 to a forecasted $55 this year.
Analysts at GasBuddy expect prices to keep easing into January or February. See state gas price averages here.

Old Nostradamus Verses Fuel 2026 Fears
The 16th-century French astrologer’s cryptic four-line verses, called quatrains, are sparking fresh anxiety as interpreters link verses numbered “26” to the coming year, warning of everything from political assassinations to technological chaos.
One frequently cited verse reads, “The great man will be struck down in the day by a thunderbolt,” which some claim points to the violent fall of a modern political leader. Another reference to “a great swarm of bees” has been interpreted as a metaphor for the spread of authoritarian ideologies or mass movements gaining power.
One optimistic quatrain offers hope, predicting “the man of light will rise” to guide humanity toward renewal after the chaos subsides.
Scholars caution that Nostradamus wrote in deliberately vague Middle French and Latin, making it easy to retrofit any verse to current anxieties. Yet, believers claim he predicted events like 9/11 and the COVID-19 pandemic—interpretations widely rejected by historians as retroactive readings.
