Israel Accepts Framework of U.S. Deal
Israeli officials confirmed Sunday that Israel had accepted the framework of a U.S. deal to wind down the Gaza war, though they described it as flawed and in need of more work.
The multi-phase plan, which Hamas hasn’t yet accepted, calls first for a ceasefire and a return of some hostages, including some who have died, then a second phase to negotiate a permanent end to fighting and the return of remaining hostages.
Several conservative members of Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s cabinet threatened to quit if any deal is accepted before Hamas is destroyed. That could collapse the government, but Israel’s opposition leaders said they would give Netanyahu political support if needed.
Trump Joins TikTok, Gets 45 Million Views
Former President Donald Trump joined TikTok on Saturday night, posting his first video, and by Sunday morning, his account had racked up over 45 million views and 2.6 million followers.
President Biden, who, like Trump, has pushed for TikTok to be closed or sold because of its close ties to the Chinese government, also posts on the controversial platform. His official account has 328,200 followers.
Despite their past opposition to TikTok, both presidential candidates see it as a way to reach young people and influencers. Trump’s first video shows him mingling at a packed Ultimate Fighting Championship match in New Jersey. “That was a good walk on, right?” he says.
Felony Gun Trial Begins for Hunter Biden
The felony gun trial of Hunter Biden begins today in Delaware—the first in history for the child of a sitting U.S. president.
Justice Department prosecutors offered Biden a plea deal on the charges, but that fell apart under a judge’s questioning that revealed a disagreement over the terms between Biden’s lawyers and the DOJ.
Biden is charged with buying a firearm while lying on the paperwork about being a drug user or addict.
Prosecutors say they will show photos and text messages from Hunter Biden himself showing him using or discussing his drug use. The trial is expected to last two to three weeks.
