Good morning! On this day in 1947, the first Little League World Series was held in Williamsport, Pennsylvania, where the local team, Maynard, defeated Lock Haven 16-7 for the championship. Of the 12 teams, 11 were from Pennsylvania and one from New Jersey.

 Powell Speech Sparks Broad Market Rally
Federal Reserve Chair Jerome Powell signaled in a much-anticipated speech that the central bank could cut interest rates next month, sparking a stock market rally that saw the Dow Jones Average jump 800 points on Friday.
In his speech, Powell noted the high level of uncertainty in the U.S. economy due to changes in tax, trade, and immigration policies, but added that “the baseline outlook and the shifting balance of risks may warrant adjusting our policy stance.”
Investors saw that remark as a possible endorsement of rate cuts when the Fed meets again on Sept. 16-17, and it was enough to send stocks soaring, particularly shares of giant technology companies including Nvidia, Amazon, Alphabet (Google’s parent), and Meta Platforms (Facebook and Instagram).

FBI Raids John Bolton’s Home
The FBI searched former National Security Adviser John Bolton’s Maryland home and the Washington, D.C., offices of his political action committee Friday morning, calling it a “court-authorized law enforcement activity.”
Agents were seen carrying boxes into Bolton’s home and bags into his office building, where he was later seen speaking with them in the lobby.
Sources said Friday’s raid was tied to classified documents included in Bolton’s tell-all book about his tenure as national security adviser during the first Trump administration. A previous investigation into the claim was later dropped by the Biden administration.
In addition to serving as President Trump’s national security adviser, Bolton was the U.S. ambassador to the United Nations under President George W. Bush.

Democrats Get Memo: Watch Your Words
Third Way, a prominent liberal think tank, issued a blacklist of terms it’s asking Democrats to stop using as they try to win back voters, including “birthing person” instead of woman, “the unhoused” instead of homeless, and “Latinx” for Latinos.
The memo organizes the words it wants to ban from Democrats’ vocabulary into categories, including Therapy-Speak (“privilege,” “safe space”), Seminar Room Language (“systems of oppression”), Gender/Orientation Correctness (“chest feeding,” “patriarchy”), and Racial Constructs (“intersectionality”).
“We think language is one of the central problems we face with normie voters, signaling that we are out of touch with how they live, think, and talk,” the authors note. Read the full memo here.
