Good morning! On this day in 1636, Massachusetts organized the first militia regiments in North America to defend the colony, a date now recognized as the founding of the National Guard of the United States.
In our Et Cetera section, we’re happy to report that today is entertainer Dick Van Dyke’s 100th birthday. To celebrate, here’s a link to the song-and-dance video released for Van Dyke’s birthday last year.
When you need gifts people will actually love, The Flyover Christmas Guide is your shortcut.

Flood Emergency Declared in Washington
Severe flooding throughout western Washington has forced the evacuation of at least one town along the Skagit River floodplain, with officials expecting many thousands more residents to be displaced.
A powerful atmospheric river dumped a foot or more of rain in the Cascade Mountains this week, swelling rivers to record levels. Many residents were stranded on rooftops, and some homes were ripped from their foundations. See storm photos here.
Washington Gov. Bob Ferguson said on Friday that President Trump approved an emergency declaration and warned flooding could reach denser areas, with millions of people still under flood watches.
The National Guard has deployed, going door-to-door in some areas to help residents escape danger. More rain is expected starting Sunday, with officials warning it could prolong flooding or trigger new floods.

Trump Pardon Rejected for State Crime
President Trump announced a pardon for Tina Peters, a former GOP county clerk in Colorado now in state prison for election interference, but Colorado officials say presidential pardons don’t apply to state crimes.
Peters was running for Colorado secretary of state at the time of the indictment, and attracted significant attention over the case. Her campaign website calls her a “political prisoner” and “whistleblower” who has been “silenced for standing for truth.”
Colorado’s position, as Secretary of State Jena Griswold said in a statement, is that Peters will remain in prison: “Tina Peters was convicted by a jury of her peers for state crimes in a state court. Trump has no constitutional authority to pardon her.”

Army-Navy Game Takes Center Stage
The 126th Army–Navy Game, one of the great traditions of college football, kicks off this afternoon on CBS, with the Commander-in-Chief’s Trophy on the line, and President Trump expected to attend in person.
The annual tradition started on Nov. 29, 1890, and it’s been played nearly every year since—a college rivalry that doubles as a celebration of America’s Armed Forces. Navy leads the all-time series 63-55-7, and enters today’s game as the favorite over Army, led by dual-threat quarterback Blake Horvath.
President Trump’s attendance has led to additional security protocols for the game. Federal officials have also set a temporary flight restriction from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Saturday and a strict no-drone zone within 2 nautical miles of the stadium.
Kickoff at Baltimore’s M&T Bank Stadium is set for at 3 p.m. ET. Here’s how to watch.
