US, Iran Trade Threats

Iranian officials warned Friday that U.S. troops and bases across the region would be “legitimate targets” if Washington intervenes in Iran’s ongoing economic crisis, in response to posts by President Trump.

On Truth Social, Trump said his administration was “locked and loaded and ready to go” to rescue “peaceful protesters” if Iran shoots or “violently kills” them.

Protests in Iran began nearly a week ago with shopkeepers angry over the collapse of the rial, the nation’s currency, and grew into street fights between protestors and government forces. Death toll estimates ranged from five to eight by Friday.

Iran’s top security official, Ali Larijani, accused the U.S. and Israel of exploiting the unrest for new attacks, urging Americans to heed the safety of U.S. troops.

Famous Classics Enter the Public Domain

Thousands of cultural works from 1930 entered the public domain on Jan. 1, including Betty Boop, Nancy Drew, Disney’s first Pluto, and novels by William Faulkner, Dashiell Hammett, and Agatha Christie.

Other works entering the public domain span early cinema, featuring the early Marx Brothers, Bing Crosby’s film debut, and best picture winners All Quiet on the Western Front and Cimarron.

Selections from the Great American Songbook, Georgia on My Mind and Dream a Little Dream of Me, also entered the public domain, opening the classics to unrestricted use.

The 2026 public domain additions represent works that reached the 95-year U.S. copyright limit, allowing creators to use and repurpose them freely without permission or payment.

What’s Ahead in Space for 2026

This year will mark humanity’s return to lunar space with four astronauts launching on a 10-day flyby mission early this year that will loop behind the moon’s far side for the first time in more than 50 years.

Meanwhile, commercial companies including Blue Origin and Firefly Aerospace are racing to land uncrewed spacecraft on the lunar surface, with China’s Chang’e 7 probe targeting the moon’s south pole to hunt for frozen water.

Closer to home, astronauts will conduct spacewalks outside the International Space Station in January to install solar arrays and upgrade equipment.
