Good morning! On this day in 1862, Union forces under Gen. Samuel Curtis clashed with Gen. Earl Van Dorn’s Confederate army at the Battle of Pea Ridge—also known as the Battle of Elkhorn Tavern—in northwest Arkansas. The fighting lasted two days and ended in a Confederate defeat.
America moves its clocks ahead one hour at 2 a.m. tonight (well, technically Sunday morning), which means we lose an hour in the morning, but gain an hour of extra daylight in the evening.  Trump Calls for ‘Unconditional Surrender’
President Trump declared Friday on Truth Social that there would be no deal to end the U.S. war against Iran without “unconditional surrender,” rejecting mediation efforts that Iran’s president said had begun.
In his post, Trump said that after Iran surrenders, “we, and many of our wonderful and very brave allies and partners, will work tirelessly to bring Iran back from the brink of destruction, making it economically bigger, better, and stronger than ever before.”
U.S. crude oil on Friday posted its biggest weekly gain in futures trading history, surging 35% this week as the war triggered a major disruption to global fuel supplies. The U.S. stock market fell Friday, with the Dow Jones Industrial Average dropping 450 points.
Meanwhile, intense Israeli strikes continued pounding Tehran and Beirut overnight, while Iran has attacked neighboring Gulf nations with missiles and drones. The State Department said thousands of U.S. citizen were still stranded in the Middle East.

Military to ID Unknown Pearl Harbor Dead
The U.S. military announced plans to exhume the remains of 88 Pearl Harbor sailors and Marines from the USS Arizona sailors who were buried as unknowns in a Honolulu cemetery, hoping to finally identify them using DNA technology.
Disinterments from the National Memorial Cemetery of the Pacific are set to begin in November or December, with about eight sets of remains removed every two to three weeks.
The effort follows similar projects over the past decade that identified hundreds of crew members from the USS Oklahoma, USS West Virginia, and other ships.
A grassroots campaign called Operation 85 has collected DNA from family members of 626 sailors and Marines—nearly 60% of those still missing—to convince Pentagon officials to exhume the bodies, a move the military has been reluctant to take.

Clocks Spring Forward Tonight
Tonight’s the night almost all Americans set their clocks forward by one hour at 2 a.m. Sunday morning as daylight saving time begins for 2026. Hawaii and Arizona are the only states that don’t observe the change.
Momentum to end the twice-yearly clock switch continues in Congress. The Daylight Act of 2026, introduced by Rep. Greg Steube (R-Florida), would move clocks forward 30 minutes permanently and stop the seasonal changes altogether.
Lawmakers in at least 15 states have introduced legislation this session aimed at locking the clocks either on permanent daylight saving time or permanent standard time. Nineteen states have already passed bills calling for year-round daylight saving time, pending federal approval.
A 2025 Gallup poll found that 54% of Americans would prefer to stop changing their clocks though Congress has yet to act. For now, the spring-forward, fall-back cycle remains the law of the land.
