Good Morning! On this day in 1947, the Spruce Goose, officially known as the Hughes H-4 Hercules, made its first and only flight. Built by Howard Hughes and his team during World War II, this massive airplane was constructed primarily from laminated birch and spruce—hence the nickname the Spruce Goose.

Economy Adds Only 12,000 Jobs
The U.S. added only 12,000 jobs in October, far below expectations, marking the slowest month for hiring since December 2020.
Economists had projected at least 100,000 jobs in the final report before Election Day, while September payroll gains were also revised down to 223,000 from 254,000.
Last month’s hurricanes and labor strikes contributed to the weak jobs report, with one expert noting it also reflects a labor market cooldown, “where growth is increasingly narrowly concentrated.”
Overall, the unemployment rate remained steady at 4.1%, the lowest level heading into a presidential election since 2000.
White House Alters Official Transcript
White House officials allegedly altered the official transcript of President Biden’s “garbage” remark despite concerns by official White House stenographers, according to a report by the Associated Press.
According to a transcript prepared by the stenographers, Biden appeared to call former President Trump supporters garbage Tuesday when he told Voto Latino, “The only garbage I see floating out there is his supporters.”
The White House press office transcript rendered the quote as “supporter’s” instead of “supporters,” which aides claimed was criticizing comedian Tony Hinchcliffe specifically, not Trump supporters.
An email and two officials confirmed that the press office made the changes after conferring with Biden in a breach of protocol and transcript integrity.
Daylight Saving Time Ends Sunday
This Sunday at 2 a.m., clocks will roll back one hour, ending daylight saving time for 2024, a 238-day period intended to extend daylight hours through spring, summer, and part of autumn.
The idea of switching the clocks is often attributed, perhaps humorously, to Ben Franklin, who suggested the French adjust their sleep schedules to save on candles and lamp oil.
Daylight saving time was established as federal law in 1966, but its end was moved from the last Sunday in October to the first Sunday in November to allow more daylight for Halloween trick-or-treating.
Florida Sen. Marco Rubio, known for his dislike for daylight saving time, announced another effort to end the practice, stating, “It’s time to lock the clock.”
