Hezbollah Threatens Israel

In his first televised statement since Hamas’ attack on October 7th, Hezbollah leader Hassan Nasrallah said that his forces are currently fighting on the Lebanon-Israel border and that the conflict may escalate into all-out war between Hezbollah and Israel.

Hezbollah has been firing rockets across the border daily, but in his speech, Nasrallah stopped short of committing to anything beyond its artillery exchanges with Israel.

Nasrallah said that U.S. ships sent to the Mediterranean “will not scare us.”

In Beirut, celebratory gunshots rang out as thousands gathered to listen to Nasrallah’s speech. In Gaza, however, many were disappointed that Nasrallah did not promise more aggressive action.

Earthquake Rocks Nepal

At least 128 people died in Nepal when an earthquake shook the western part of the country.

The quake was felt 500 miles away in New Delhi, India, and it had a magnitude of 5.6. In the district of Jajarkot—the epicenter of the quake—92 people have been confirmed dead, and another 55 people are injured.

Earthquakes are common in Nepal, a mountainous country with a vulnerable infrastructure. In 2015, a 7.8 magnitude earthquake killed 9,000 and damaged a million structures.

Major Drug Bust in Connecticut

A drug task force raided a home in Burlington, CT, and found $8.5 million worth of illegal psychedelic mushrooms stored in doggie bags.

The mushrooms contained psilocybin—a Schedule 1 controlled hallucinogenic. The house’s 21 year-old resident was charged with operating a drug factory and intent to sell narcotics.

Psilocybin is now legal in several states (or municipalities within the states), although California Governor Gavin Newsom recently vetoed a bill that would have legalized the use of psychedelic mushrooms, saying that the state needed more regulation first.
