Helene’s Death Toll Rises
Hurricane Helene’s death toll rose to over 223 this week, making it the third-deadliest U.S. storm of the 21st century as rescue crews continue searching for survivors.
Millions remain without power days after the storm ravaged communities from Florida to Virginia. Survivors are also challenged by limited access to clean water, shelter, gasoline, and food.
FEMA arrived in Western North Carolina on Monday after President Biden approved federal aid, but by Thursday, some residents reported still not seeing any federal officials. See photos of the devastation here.
Sen. Lindsey Graham criticized federal relief efforts in South Carolina, stating that FEMA has been slow to respond and hasn’t visited some storm-damaged areas.
Trump, Kemp Make Joint Appearance
Former President Trump and Georgia Gov. Brian Kemp made their first public appearance together in years on Friday, touring storm damaged areas and offering support for Hurricane Helene’s victims.
The two appeared in Evans, Georgia, with Kemp thanking Trump for his second visit to the Peach State following the natural disaster. Kemp said Trump’s arrival was important to Georgia and its recovery.
In return, Trump praised Kemp’s efforts, saying he was doing a “fantastic job” with his storm response.
Vice presidential nominee Sen. JD Vance has been credited for repairing the between Trump and Kemp, who have been at odds over the results of the 2020 presidential election.

What’s happening in northern Nigeria has been called a “silent genocide.”
The nation is now No. 6 on the World Watch List for the most dangerous places to be a Christian, but you probably haven’t seen it in the news. The terrorist group Boko Haram is oppressing, trafficking, and martyring Nigerian Christians. Last year, more than 8,000 Christians were murdered.
Despite all the risk, OneHope and their local partners are working to support Nigerian Christians and share the Gospel with the next generation. Their mission is to bring hope, which can’t be taken away, no matter the level of terrorism.
