Good morning! On this day in 1862, Union soldiers discovered a copy of Confederate General Robert E. Lee’s orders outlining the Confederates’ strategy for the Antietam campaign near Frederick, Maryland. The Battle of Antietam, won by the Union at great cost, halted Lee’s advance into Maryland.

Charlie Kirk Murder Suspect Arrested
Police arrested 22-year-old Tyler Robinson Thursday night for the assassination of Turning Point USA founder Charlie Kirk, charging Robinson with aggravated murder and obstruction of justice.
Robinson had eluded police since the shooting on Wednesday, but, confronted by his father, who had seen video images of the suspect leaving the scene, he admitted he was the killer. A family friend alerted authorities.
Officials said the bolt-action rifle they recovered after the shooting had casings engraved with messages, some of which appear to reference online memes and video games. One casing was inscribed, “hey fascist! CATCH!”
Meanwhile, funeral arrangements for Kirk were still pending as of Friday. The services will take place in Arizona, where Kirk lived with his wife and two children before his death.

Trump to Send National Guard to Memphis
President Trump said Friday that he was sending the National Guard to Memphis, Tennessee, calling the city “deeply troubled.”
Trump said both the state’s Republican Gov. Bill Lee and the Democratic mayor of Memphis, Paul Young, were “happy” with his plan.
Memphis, which has long struggled with crime, had one of the highest per capita rates of murder and other violent crime of any large city in the country in 2024, according to the FBI.
For weeks, Trump discussed plans to send National Guard troops to Chicago, but facing resistance there, he said he began looking at states governed by Republicans.

FAA Fast Tracks Rollout of Air Taxis
The Federal Aviation Administration announced Friday it is launching a fast-tracked pilot program to speed up the rollout of air taxis.
Archer Aviation and Joby Aviation, both major players in the electric vertical takeoff and landing, or eVTOL, space, said they are participating in the program. Shares of each were higher on Friday.
Officials said the commitment is expected to create high-paying manufacturing jobs, expand economic opportunities, and deliver futuristic air taxis to transform travel and product transport.
The action follows a Trump administration executive order calling for “American drone dominance,” beginning with this Electric Vertical Takeoff and Landing Integration Pilot Program.
