Good Morning! On this day in 1860, the first Pony Express delivery arrived in Sacramento after a 10-day ride from Missouri, setting a new national standard for speedy mail delivery. The service ended 18 months later with the arrival of the era’s hottest new technology: the telegraph.
Many have noticed the uncanny resemblance between dogs and their owners—and one photographer has hilariously captured the evidence.

US Envoy Meets with Putin over Ukraine War
US envoy Steve Witkoff met Russian President Vladimir Putin in St. Petersburg on Friday in a four-hour meeting focused on a ceasefire between Russia and Ukraine.
The talks were described by Russian special envoy Kirill Dmitriev as “productive.”
It is the third time Witkoff has visited Russia and met with Putin since President Trump’s return to the White House. Trump has been pushing for an end to the war since Russia’s invasion of Ukraine in 2022 and has previously publicly criticized both Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy and Putin.
Trump’s special envoy to Ukraine, retired Lt. Gen. Keith Kellogg, appeared to suggest that Russian forces could remain in the parts of the east which they already occupy, separated by Ukrainian troops and a demilitarized zone. Kellogg later clarified that he was not proposing a partition, but a potential allied “resiliency force in support of Ukraine’s sovereignty.”

Afghans, Cameroonians to Lose Protected Status
More than 14,000 Afghans and close to 7,900 Cameroonians will have their temporary deportation protections (TPS) terminated, according to Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem.
The secretary found that conditions in Afghanistan and Cameroon no longer merit U.S. protection. TPS is granted to nationals of designated countries facing conditions, such as armed conflict or environmental disasters, which make it unsafe for them to return home.
The Biden administration granted TPS status for Afghanistan in the aftermath of the United States’ withdrawal from the country when the U.S. made efforts to evacuate Afghan nationals who had aided the United States.
Citizens of both countries have been protected by TPS since 2022. Courts have blocked similar efforts by Noem for other countries.

List: Ranking the Cheapest Beer by State
Illinois is the cheapest state to buy a case of beer in the U.S. at $16.43, according to this survey.
Alaska is the most expensive state to purchase a 24-pack, based on the prices of Bud Light or Miller Lite, averaging $33.62 per. Wyoming is the second-most expensive state at $28.78. Some states with higher costs have sparse populations and fewer beer options.
Taxes are a major factor. According to the Tax Foundation, taxes are the single most expensive ingredient in beer—sometimes accounting for nearly 40% of the total cost when both state excise rates and federal levies are included.
