Judge: Trump Officials Face Contempt Charges
U.S. District Judge James Boasberg found probable cause to hold the Trump administration in contempt of court after it failed to comply with a March 15 order halting deportation flights to El Salvador under the Alien Enemies Act.
The case focuses on planes carrying over 260 migrants, many of them Venezuelan nationals, to El Salvador, despite the court ordering their return after they had already left the U.S.
Boasberg criticized the administration’s “willful disregard” of the court’s order and instructed officials to submit explanations by April 23 or face potential prosecution.
The White House responded that it plans to appeal, defending its actions as necessary for national security.
The case stemmed from a dispute over Scottish legislation that included transgender women in gender quotas for public boards.
The ruling clarifies that single-sex spaces, such as shelters and changing rooms, can legally exclude transgender individuals, though U.K. anti-discrimination protections remain in place.
Supporters, including author J.K. Rowling, hailed it as a victory for clarity and women’s rights; trans advocates and groups including Amnesty International condemned the judgment as a setback for equality.
Washington tops the list, followed by New Hampshire, Alaska, Maryland, and Colorado, thanks to factors that can include no income tax, strong remote work culture, or high senior household income.
At the bottom are Mississippi, Arkansas, Alabama, West Virginia, Kentucky, and Louisiana, with high rates of age discrimination, low labor force participation, and weak business environments.
