Good Morning! On this day in 1961, President John F. Kennedy held the nation’s first televised presidential news conference, answering policy questions live for 30 minutes. You can watch it here.
Our poll yesterday asked who your favorite TV dad was, and we’re happy to report that nearly half of our readers chose Sheriff Andy Taylor of Mayberry. Now we need to get Barney Fife elected as favorite deputy.

Texas vs. Feds in Razor-Wire Standoff
Texas Gov. Greg Abbott is fighting back against the Biden administration and a U.S. Supreme Court ruling allowing Border Patrol agents to cut down razor wire put up by the state to block a stretch of the border.
Abbott hasn’t given way on the razor wire, and he posted an open letter to X arguing that Texas had a “constitutional right to self-defense” because Biden had failed to secure the border.
The battle could force a constitutional confrontation. Several Democrats in Congress, including Texas Rep. Joaquin Castro, called on Biden to take control of the Texas National Guard if the state defies the Supreme Court order.
Netflix Growth Soars With Broad Strategy
Netflix reported record-high post-pandemic growth in subscribers as it shifts into more of an all-purpose destination, including everything from wrestling to old TV shows interrupted with commercials.
The streaming giant said it signed up 13.1 million new subscribers in the 4th quarter, its biggest gain ever in the year’s last quarter, growing to a total 260 of million global subscribers. Here’s the size of the major streaming platforms.
The financial results, added to Tuesday’s announcement that Netflix had signed a 10-year, $5 billion deal to bring WWE wrestling to the service, sent the company’s stock price up by nearly 11%.
Netflix’s premium tier, without ads, costs roughly $16 a month. With ads, the price is $6.99, but analysts point out that the strategy is bringing it back to the feel of an old-fashioned cable channel.
List: What it Costs to Retire in Every State
The cost of retirement can vary by as much as $1.36 million depending on the state you live in, according to this ranking of all 50 states.
The most expensive place to retire is Hawaii, which would require over $2 million, and the least expensive is West Virginia, where you’d need less than $700,000.
The analysis calculated relevant living expenses for people ages 65 or older and then multiplied them by 25 or 30 years. You can see an alphabetical ranking of retirement costs for your state here.
