Good Morning! On this day in 1866, a Frenchman named Pierre Lallement received a U.S. patent for the nation’s first pedal bicycle, after arriving the year before with the plans and components for his invention. See the first pedal bicycle here.
Humans are a peculiar bunch. We’ll revive gelatin salads, turn a random car on a tiny island into a local attraction, and gather 374 bagpipers to play AC/DC for the record books. Today’s edition celebrates that specialness.
💼 Keep an eye on your inbox later today: we’re sending a partner message about a smarter way to hire with Upwork Business Plus.
If you’ve ever wished you could make a direct, life-saving impact, this Thanksgiving you can help hungry children and families in India survive a devastating food crisis through the efficient, on-the-ground work from today’s sponsor, Good Shepherd India.

U.S. Loans $1 Billion to Restart Three Mile Island
The U.S. Department of Energy will lend $1 billion to restart Pennsylvania’s Three Mile Island nuclear plant, the site of a partial meltdown in 1979, as part of a deal to supply power to Microsoft data centers.
Constellation Energy plans to bring the reactor, renamed the Crane Clean Energy Center, back online by 2027 as part of a $1.6 billion restoration.
The 835-megawatt unit could power about 800,000 homes, and officials say the project marks a step in reviving U.S. nuclear capacity to meet rising energy and AI demand.

ICE Plans Increased Enforcement in NYC
White House border czar Tom Homan announced that U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) will increase operations in New York City due to its sanctuary city status, citing public safety threats.
Homan expressed a willingness to meet with city officials to work together on immigration issues. Mayor Eric Adams’s office said the city administration doesn’t collaborate with the federal government on civil immigration enforcement.
The announcement comes as Mayor-elect Zohran Mamdani plans to meet with President Trump to discuss affordability. His office says he remains committed to upholding sanctuary laws.
