Question: What does the term “WiFi” stand for?

Answer: Nothing, except maybe good marketing. It’s not an acronym for “Wireless Fidelity,” as many people believe. The term was created by the Interbrand agency in 1999 as an easy, non-technical term for wireless communication. Otherwise we’d be calling it “IEEE 802.11b Direct Sequence,” which doesn’t roll off the tongue.
