Question: What was the most powerful human-made explosion in history?

Answer: On Oct. 30, 1961, the Soviet Union tested the largest nuclear weapon ever set off, known as “Tsar Bomba.” Though built to have 100-megaton capacity, that size was considered too dangerous to actually test. The Soviets modified it down to a 50-megaton blast, estimated to be about 3,800 times the strength of the bomb dropped on Hiroshima in World War II. It produced a mushroom cloud 37 miles high and the detonation flash was seen over 600 miles away.
