Question: What’s the only state whose flag isn’t rectangular?
Answer: Ohio. Its flag is in a shape called a swallowtail burgee, and for non-Ohioans, you can see a photo here. Why? Well, in 1901, an architect named John Eisenmann was designing the Ohio Building for the Pan-American Exposition and wanted to fly a flag atop it. Since there was no official Ohio flag at the time, he designed one himself in the swallowtail shape, possibly inspired by a U.S. cavalry pennant.
