Question: Why are movie previews called “Trailers”?

Answer: When they were first invented more than a century ago, trailers appeared after the movie, not before. The first one was shown in 1913 and promoted a live play using rehearsal footage after a movie ended. The idea quickly spread until soon, every movie had a trailer promoting it. Theaters eventually switched to running the previews before the movie, but the name “trailer” never went away.
