Question: Why is green the preferred color of pool table surfaces?

Answer: Pool tables are green because the game began as an outdoor lawn activity played on nicely manicured grass, similar to croquet. When billiards moved indoors in the 15th century, the green baize cloth was designed to mimic that green lawn playing surface. Over time, that became the traditional look for pool tables, though for TV tournaments they sometimes use a blue cloth for better visibility.
