Answer: The mantis shrimp punches with hammer-like claws moving as fast as a .22-caliber bullet. It has the most powerful self-powered punch of any creature on earth, and yet it’s only about 7 inches long and weighs maybe a pound-and-a-half soaking wet (which it always is). Everything about it is odd: it’s coloring is a kaleidoscope of green, orange, blue and red; it has two independent eyes and can see far more wavelengths than humans; and it’s a deadly little predator that beats up and eats creature much larger than itself.
