Trump Indicted in Georgia
A Georgia grand jury handed up a sealed indictment Monday night after a frenzied day of hearing evidence over Donald Trump’s loss in the 2020 election.
The prosecutors are accusing Trump and his associates of trying to overturn the 2020 election in Georgia by means of a “criminal enterprise”—a statute typically reserved for cases of organized crime.
A court filing indicated 10 indictments, but the defendants and the charges hadn’t been revealed by late Monday night. The details are expected to be announced shortly.
Adding to the confusion, Reuters reported Monday afternoon, before the indictments came out, that the court had already posted a list of charges against Trump, which was instantly taken down. Trump’s lawyers said it was evidence the case was politically motivated. | Flash Mob Wipes Out Nordstrom Store
A Nordstrom store in a Los Angeles-area mall was ransacked in a huge “smash-and-grab” that netted thieves up to $100,000 in stolen goods.
Video footage posted by police shows people wearing black masks running out of the store with merchandise, including duffel bags, purses, and other bags in their hands.
Police say they have several leads and intend to prosecute the thieves. Retailers in the state have locked down merchandise and even closed stores because of rampant shoplifting. | Navy, Army, Marines All Lack Official Leaders
The U.S. Navy on Monday became the third branch of the military to no longer have a Senate-confirmed leader, for the first time in history. Instead, each has an acting, unconfirmed chief.
GOP Sen. Tommy Tuberville of Alabama is blocking these top appointments and over 300 others as part of his effort to change a new Pentagon policy that pays for service members to travel out of state for abortions.
The Navy’s new acting Chief of Naval Operations, Adm. Lisa Franchetti, if eventually approved by the Senate, would be the first woman named to the military’s Joint Chiefs of Staff.
