President-elect Donald Trump has begun appointing key positions in his second administration, focusing on aides and allies who were his most dedicated supporters during the 2024 campaign.
On Monday, Trump announced he will appoint former New York Rep. Lee Zeldin to lead the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), longtime adviser Stephen Miller as deputy chief of policy, and Rep. Elise Stefanik as U.N. Ambassador.
Trump’s transition team earlier tapped former ICE director Tom Homan for the position of border czar and senior adviser Susie Wiles as chief of staff, making her the first woman to hold the position.

Spirit Airlines Flight Hit by Gunfire in Haiti
A Spirit Airlines flight out of Florida was hit by gunfire Monday while attempting to land in Port-au-Prince, Haiti, injuring a flight attendant. See photos here.
The flight, en route from Fort Lauderdale, was diverted to Santiago, Dominican Republic, where it landed safely.
Toussaint Louverture International Airport grounded all commercial flights following the incident, which occurred just hours before Haiti’s new prime minister was set to be sworn in.
The attackers remain unidentified, but the shooting aligns with recent gang violence targeting aircraft in the region. Spirit Airlines confirmed the incident and announced a suspension of service to Haiti.

Wildfires Devastate Both U.S. Coasts
Fire crews on both coasts of the U.S. continued to battle wildfires, including one in New York and New Jersey that resulted in the death of a parks employee, and another in Southern California that has destroyed over 170 buildings.
Hundreds of firefighters from New York and New Jersey struggled to contain nine blazes that have erupted across the region, including the Jennings Creek Fire, located about 30 miles northwest of Midtown Manhattan. Containment was 10% by late Monday.
An 18-year-old park ranger, Dariel Vasquez, died while fighting one of the blazes. He worked for New York’s Parks and Recreation Department.
In Southern California, strong winds have intensified wildfires. Crews increased containment of the Mountain Fire in Ventura County, northwest of Los Angeles, to 36% as of Monday. The fire continues to span approximately 32 square miles. You can see fire damage here.

Christian children in hostile areas and restricted nations around the world are often mistreated within their communities and face great challenges because of their faith. In some countries, they are specifically targeted for persecution or forced conversion, and they quickly learn the cost of following Christ.
The Voice of the Martyrs works through its global network of front-line workers to bring Christmas Care Packs to children in hostile areas and restricted nations.
Christmas Care Packs are tailored to the specific needs of children in the different regions where they are delivered. The packs include items like school supplies, clothing, hygiene items, a toy, and Christian literature. Every child also receives a full-color, illustrated children’s Bible in the appropriate language. For most of these children, it is the first Bible they have ever received!
