Armed Man Attacks Ohio Gov Candidate

Police on Sunday arrested an armed man who attacked Ohio gubernatorial candidate Amy Acton at the Canfield Fair, injuring multiple people before state troopers stopped him.

Patrick Havas, 38, pushed through the crowd at the Mahoning County Democratic Party tent, knocking over fairgoers including an elderly man as he charged toward Acton. He was found carrying two pistols, a Taser and brass knuckles, though no weapons were drawn.

Acton, a Democrat facing Republican Vivek Ramaswamy in one of the year’s biggest races, was not hurt. Both candidates condemned the attack, as did Gov. Mike DeWine, who called political violence “always unacceptable.”

GOP Unveils Lineup for Midterm Convention

The Republican National Committee unveiled its speaker lineup for the party’s first-ever midterm convention, a two-night event in Dallas starting Wednesday with President Trump delivering the opening keynote and then the closing speech Thursday night.

Vice President Vance gives the keynote speech on night two alongside cabinet officials like Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent and Health Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr., plus Donald Trump Jr. and roughly 100 GOP lawmakers.

But dozens of swing-district Republicans plan to skip. A survey of more than 70 GOP candidates and lawmakers found at least 45 opting out, citing scheduling conflicts and their own election positioning.

Trump Floats Renaming New Mexico

President Trump on Sunday posted a map of New Mexico relabeled “New America,” days after a debunked online hoax claimed he had signed an executive order renaming the state. The White House’s official account reposted the image on X.

Trump followed with an AI-generated video on Truth Social showing him slapping “America” onto the state’s welcome sign, calling the new name “so much more prestigious and beautiful.”

New Mexico Democrats pushed back. Gov. Michelle Lujan Grisham said the state’s “name isn’t up for debate,” noting it predates the United States itself.
