Biden Orders Troops to Mexico Border
The Biden administration is sending 1,500 US troops to the Mexican border in response to a flood of illegal migrants.
The key date for the US is May 11, which is when the Covid-era travel restrictions of Title 42 officially end. The expiration of those rules, which allowed the US to quickly return tens of thousands of people trying to cross the border, is expected to draw a new wave of migrants.
The White House has come under fire for the chaos of its immigration policy, though it continues to call it a success. Press Secretary Karine Jean-Pierre drew ridicule this week for claiming that illegal immigration was down 90 percent under Biden.

Blue States Losing Billions to Red States
New York and California lost over $90 billion in revenue during Covid as the flight to red states accelerated, according to new IRS data.
Along with Illinois, these high-tax states appear to be hemorrhaging high-income residents, who moved with their money to low-tax states such as Florida, Texas, and Indiana. The top 15 cities by rate of population growth are now concentrated in red states.
The other problem for the blue states is the difference in income between newcomers and emigrants. The IRS data shows that the people leaving Illinois and New York make on average $30,000-$40,000 more than the new residents moving in.

Writers Picket as TV Shows Go Dark
Late-night TV shows begin reruns tonight as Hollywood writers go on strike. Streaming services will avoid disruption for now but will be affected if the strike is a long one.
The writers began picketing in an effort to win the PR war against producers, and they filled an entire New York City block on Fifth Avenue with signs and marchers.
The strike will affect individual shows differently. To help readers keep up, Variety maintains an ongoing updated list of shows being impacted.
