 Trump Fires Fed Governor; She Vows to Fight
President Trump announced Monday night that he was firing Federal Reserve Governor Lisa D. Cook, citing mortgage fraud allegations referred by the Federal Housing Finance Agency.
Cook, the first black woman to serve as a Fed governor, rejected the move, saying he has no authority to dismiss her and that she will continue serving. Her attorney, Abbe Lowell, said they will file a lawsuit challenging the action.
The firing of a Federal Reserve governor by a U.S. president is unprecedented, but investor reaction to the move was muted on Tuesday, with markets closing slightly higher.
The Federal Reserve would not say Tuesday whether Cook was at her office or working remotely, the day after Trump fired her in a letter posted online.

Massive Dust Storm Sweeps Phoenix
A towering dust storm, or haboob, swept into Phoenix Monday evening, plunging the city into darkness and disrupting the evening commute. Watch a video here.
The haboob, driven by thunderstorm outflow, brought wind gusts up to 94 mph in San Tan Valley and 70 mph at Sky Harbor International Airport, where flights were delayed.
Visibility fell to near zero, prompting safety warnings from the National Weather Service as downed trees and power outages spread across the metro area. Flash flooding followed, forcing closures on parts of Interstate 17.
While haboobs occur regularly during Arizona’s monsoon season, storms of this size and intensity are less common and especially disruptive. See more photos here.

Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce Engaged
Pop superstar Taylor Swift and Kansas City Chiefs star Travis Kelce announced their engagement on Tuesday after two years of dating in a joint Instagram post with the caption, “Your English teacher and your gym teacher are getting married.”
The photos in the post, taken in a lush garden or forest setting, included Swift displaying a brilliant-cut diamond ring in a gold bezel. See the photo here.
Their romance began in the summer of 2023 after Kelce mentioned attending Swift’s Eras Tour on his New Heights podcast, with the pair dating privately until going public at a Chiefs game later that year.
The relationship has also carried cultural weight, with Swift’s presence boosting NFL viewership and reportedly adding more than $300 million in value to the Chiefs franchise.
