 First Major Winter Storm Hits US
Millions of Americans woke up Tuesday to the first real blast of winter as a powerful Arctic front swept across the eastern two-thirds of the country, bringing snow, deep freezes, and biting wind from the Midwest to the Gulf Coast.
Over a foot of lake-effect snow buried parts of Indiana, Illinois, Wisconsin, and Michigan, while flakes flew as far south as Nashville, Myrtle Beach, and even the Florida Panhandle.
The cold snap even triggered falling-iguana alerts in Florida, where the invasive reptiles can go limp and tumble from trees when temperatures drop below 40.
More than 1,000 flights were canceled and 600 were delayed by Tuesday morning, as winter weather collided with problems caused by the ongoing government shutdown.

Trump Seeks Name On New Stadium
President Trump is reportedly seeking to have the new $3.7 billion stadium for the NFL’s Washington Commanders named after him.
The White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt said that naming it after Trump “would surely be a beautiful name, as it was President Trump who made the rebuilding of the new stadium possible.”
Reports say Trump has made this request via back-channel communications with the team’s owner, Josh Harris. The Commanders currently hold the naming rights for the stadium, and could sell it to a corporate sponsor or offer it to the president.

China Bridge Collapses in Landslide
A 2,500-foot highway bridge in China’s Sichuan province collapsed Tuesday after a landslide slammed the mountainside where it stood. See the video here.
The Hongqi Bridge had just opened earlier this year to link China’s interior with the Tibetan Plateau.
Police shut down traffic Monday after spotting slope cracks. The next day, part of the bridge gave way and tumbled into the river below. No injuries were reported.
The incident comes just months after another high-profile failure in August, when a railway bridge under construction in Qinghai province collapsed, killing at least 12 workers and leaving four others missing.
