Texas Flooding Toll Hits 43

The death toll from the July 4 flash floods in Kerr County, Texas, has risen to 43, including 15 children, with many girls from Camp Mystic still unaccounted for, officials said Saturday evening. Photos from the camp are available here.

The Guadalupe River surged 26 feet in under 45 minutes, overwhelming the historic Christian camp and sweeping away cabins and campers. Rescue crews have saved more than 850 people using helicopters, boats, and drones, but the search continues as rain persists across the Hill Country.

Among the deceased is Camp Mystic director Dick Eastland. Despite early warnings from the National Weather Service and AccuWeather, local officials said they were caught off guard by the storm’s intensity.

Governor Greg Abbott has declared a state of disaster across 21 counties, mobilizing state and federal resources for ongoing rescue and recovery efforts.

Trump Tariff Push Begins with Letters

President Trump says the U.S. has begun sending letters to foreign governments detailing steep new tariffs, ranging from 10% to as high as 70%.

Around 10 letters will go out each day, with more to follow, as Trump pushes for reciprocal tariffs to pressure trade partners into reaching new deals by a July 9 deadline.

The new rates are scheduled to take effect Aug. 1 unless agreements are reached. The administration hasn’t named which nations are targeted, but Trump said this approach would streamline enforcement and boost demand for U.S.-made goods.

The announcement pushed global markets lower—Germany’s DAX fell 0.6%, France’s CAC 40 dropped 0.7%, and South Korea’s KOSPI tumbled 2%.

US, Mexico Set for Gold Cup Showdown

Diego Luna has emerged as the breakout star of the U.S. men’s national team, scoring twice in the semifinal win over Guatemala to send the Americans to the Gold Cup final.

The 21-year-old midfielder now leads a young U.S. squad into a high-stakes showdown against Mexico today at NRG Stadium in Houston.

The final kicks off at 7 p.m. ET and is expected to draw a heavily pro-Mexico crowd. With key players fatigued and Luna in top form, the U.S. hopes to pull off an upset in the high-stakes final.
