Good morning! On this date in 1858, Abraham Lincoln met Stephen Douglas in the first of their historic debates over the future of a divided United States. Lincoln lost that Senate election, but the debates helped make him President in 1860.

Trump May Skip Debate For Tucker Interview
Donald Trump will skip Wednesday night’s GOP presidential debate and is instead hinting that he’ll counter-program the debate with a sit-down interview with Tucker Carlson.
The Carlson interview isn’t confirmed yet, though sources say it’s already been taped. But if it does happen, a Trump-Carlson interview would be a direct slap at Fox News.
Regardless, Republican National Committee chairwoman Ronna McDaniel said Sunday she’s “holding out hope” that Trump will still join the stage Wednesday night. | Russian Lunar Lander Crashes Into Moon
Russia’s first moon mission in nearly 50 years failed Saturday when its lunar lander crashed into the moon and all contact was lost. A soft landing had been planned for today.
The Luna 25 spacecraft began spinning out of control as it moved into its pre-landing orbit, Russian officials said. The loss is a big blow to Roscocosmos, Russia’s civilian space program.
The mission was an effort to beat India to a landing on the moon’s south pole. India’s first lunar mission, moving more cautiously, is set to land on the moon this Wednesday. | Tropical Storm Hilary Hits California
Tropical Storm Hilary is heading to Southern California, the first tropical storm to hit the area in 84 years, and residents are bracing for flash floods, mudslides, high winds, and power outages.
Hilary made landfall on Mexico’s Baja California peninsula Sunday morning, downgraded from a hurricane to a still-heavy Category 1 tropical storm. “This is a very, very dangerous and significant storm,” said a California official.
By Sunday, a number of baseball games were canceled, both Disney and Universal theme parks said they would close early, and a SpaceX launch was postponed.

You can’t eat gold.
You’ve worked hard to grow your wealth and preserve your capital. But what happens:
- If inflation keeps climbing? (The Fed’s worried about ‘upside risks’!)
- If Social Security tanks? (The government itself warns about 2034.)
- If China’s yuan replaces the dollar as the world’s reserve currency? (There are already rumblings…)
- If lockdowns return? (The CDC is tracking a “highly mutated” variant. Here we go again…)
- If… if… if…
Perhaps none of this will happen. But the systems you grew up trusting can – and DO – break.
Modern life has made you dependent on those systems.
It wasn’t always this way. Chances are, your grandparents knew better. They were resilient. They had knowledge and wisdom.
